Edition Binding
Edition BindingThe needs of library binding focus on durability and preservation. In edition binding, we couple that durability with the additional, aesthetic needs of printers and publishers. Having started as a certified library bindery, our niche for short-run length edition binding is a good fit for many printers and small to mid-sized publishers. Depending on page count, paper style and end sheet usage, we employ various binding methods ranging from Side Sewn, Double Fan Adhesive, Case Perfect Binding, Smyth, or Oversewn. We classify Edition Binding into 3 categories: Trade Edition, On Demand Binding, and Fine Editions.
Trade Editions: Printers and publishers of many types rely on Houchen Bindery Ltd. for short-run length hardcover binding. Typical run lengths may be anywhere from 10 copies to several thousand. Cover choices involve a printed, laminated graphic cover or many choices of cloth or imitation leather (non woven) materials. Foil stamping using custom dies, head & tail bands, various rounding & backing options, and application of printed dust jackets are all standard options in Trade Edition binding. We work with supplied printed and folded signatures from larger offset presses, or single collated sheets from digital equipment.

On Demand Binding: The term "On Demand Publishing" doesn't end with the digital press! At Houchen Bindery Ltd., we are well-equipped to accommodate the needs of "On Demand Publishing." On Demand Binding includes many of the same needs of Trade Editions, but usually involves a very short run length and a very quick turn-around time. Typical products for the photobook, wedding, and memorial book markets are prime examples. Houchen Bindery is well-equipped to partner with marketing firms or other organizations such as schools, sports teams, etc. With a special, unique online ordering system, we can make your project a successful endeavor for your organization.
Fine Editions: Fine Editions are generally very small quantities, but are set apart from Trade Edition Binding with special techniques, trim sizes and/or binding methods not generally employed in a typical Trade Edition. Fine materials such as real or imitation bonded leathers, specially stamped or embossed or de-bossed covers, silk screen and fancy hand bindings, and custom printed end sheets are all possibilities. Extra time and planning goes into a Fine Edition, and Houchen Bindery has the experience to make the most handsome Fine Editions on the market. Examples include family genealogy books, special limited edition art books, and museum editions.
Soft Cover Perfect Binding:Houchen Bindery Ltd. also offers soft cover perfect binding in quantities up to many thousands. We offer in-house cover printing and laminating, in either gloss or linen finish. We can also work with laminated or UV coated cover stock supplied by the customer.
